Meera Jasmine wins Sreevidya best actress award

Talented South Indian actress Meera Jasmine has won the first Sreevidya award for the best actress in the Malayalam film industry.

Meera has won the award that's been instituted in memory of the late Malayalam actress Sreevidya. She has been chosen as the winner of the first Sreevidya Award by a jury comprising veteran Malayalam film director Siddiq. Meera is already a National Award winner.



K.B. Ganesh Kumar, chairman of the MLV Sreevidya Charitable Society, said: "She (Meera ) has been chosen for the first Sreevidya award for her role in Ore Kadal . The award would be given on actress Sreevidya's second death anniversary, which falls this Sunday."

Sreevidya, a popular Malayali actress, had died on Oct 19, 2006, at the age of 53. She had acted in many South Indian films. But she is most remembered for her performances in Malayalam films.

Ganesh Kumar also revealed that plans are afoot to start a Cancer Foundation in Sreevidya's memory.

Sheela shining in malayalam

Sheela, who had been part of several Tamil and Telugu films, is making her presence felt in Malayalam film industry. Thanks to 'Maya Bazaar', a movie opposite Mammootty, she has become a popular face in the neighbouring State.

Sheela, who started her career with 'Ilavattam', played a important role in Vijaya T Rajendhar's 'Veerasamy'. She ventured to Telugu be part of a couple of biggies. Now she has gone to Kerela with 'Maya Bazaar'.

The Malayalam movie released on last week won rave reviews for her performance. Says Sheela 'it is a joy sharing the screen with Mammootty and I learnt a lot from the versatile actor'.
